Do people that are very negative about other peoples' achievements annoy you?

I met a woman recently on a course and for any other people on the course, she was incredibly negative about their plans for the future and she could not see the value in anything that was not a completely utilitarian, pragmatic degree. One man was studying his PHD in I think emmigration demographics for Ireland with a view to becoming a lecturer but this woman was like 'but, sure what can you do with that?'. This woman is in her thirties and a speech and language therapist and she sounded like such an ignorant idiot. Furthermore, the way she spoek about her clients in speech and language therapy was like she did feel hugely superior to them and void of compion (a kind of 'aww, sure god love them' condescension. Why in such instances is it natrually umed that the older one gets the more 'mature one gets'? I am 21 and would not behave like this idiot. It was like she would put down anyone for anything they were doing because she couldn't see any value in it. I tend to think there is credit due to anyone pursuing education in whatever field and I don't like to put down peoples' career paths. I thought it was very rude of her to carry on like that..
