Here's the deal I'm a 18 yr/old African American male & I wanted to know are braids really that played out?

Where I'm from in the south light skin guys with long braids is still a hot commodity with the ladies. But since I have moved to a new city for college all I have been hearing is how braids are played out. It's either fades or dreads. I have had my braids nearly all my life and I do understand change is important to growth. So I guess my real question is what should I do about my hair, what hairstyles on guys are yall feeling the most right now ladies? (I'd prefer not to get dreads because they don't really look right on light skin guys.)
